Job Introduction

Great Minds Together is seeking to recruit a Forensic Psychologist to support with the growth in offering of our current Psychology department into a multi-disciplinaries Therapies Department. In this creative and impactful position, you will work across all departments – Outreach, DSR and Complex Case, Thriving Futures (our Tier 3.5 service) and Residential – to support in the delivery of Great Minds Together’s therapeutic model of care. You will work closely with our Clinical Director, utilising your expertise to support in widening the current offering of our Psychology department, formulating and delivering interventions to the young people accessing our services, and aiding in the training, supervision and upskilling of our current team of assistant psychologists, psychotherapists, and advanced therapeutic practitioners.

Role: Forensic Psychologist

Salary: £50,000-£70,000 dependent on experience

Hours: 37.5 hours. Full time with flexible working

Main Responsibilities

  • Support in the design, development and delivery of therapeutic programmes of work across GMT.
  • Hold and manage an individual caseload to provide direct therapeutic work interventions in line with your expertise.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and formulations to build Individual Development Plans (intervention and care plans) for all individuals on your caseload.
  • Regularly collate qualitative and quantitative data to review outcomes of your caseload and support with the evidencing of outcomes within the department and across the organisation in line with the GMT therapeutic model of care.
  • Support with the creation and delivery of training in line with psychological theory and your expertise to the wider organisation.
  • Conduct comprehensive and timely risk assessments and safety plans where required.
  • Support with the provision of clinical supervision to Assistant Psychologists and Advanced Therapeutic Practitioners within the team.
  • To support the Clinical Director with the ongoing development, review and oversight of the clinical processes across all departments in the organisation.
  • Consult with multi-agency teams to advise on the best approaches and provisions to support learning, development, and emotional wellbeing of the young people on your case load.
  • Write detailed, accurate and precise case notes and reports, making recommendations on actions to be taken.
  • Attend case conferences involving multidisciplinary teams on how best to meet the social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs of the children and young people.
  • Conduct active research to support GMT’s model of care and bespoke individual programmes to effectively meet the needs of the young people.
  • Formulate interventions that focus on applying knowledge, skills, and expertise to support local and national initiatives.
  • Work closely with the clinical director to develop and model effective interventions to promote psychological wellbeing and social, emotional, and behavioural development through the GMT model of care.
  • Work with Social Leads and Registered Mental Health Nurses, LD TiC Practitioners, wider MDTs and families of the children and young people to build a greater understanding of the needs of individuals and how to adapt approaches to best meet their needs.
  • Implement individual care programmes and intervention plans in accordance with the Great Minds Together model, merging clinical and social approaches where required and appropriate.
  • Promote excellent practice through the provision of a secure and caring environment for the children and young people in accordance with the Great Minds Together values.
  • To be part of the staff team – to participate in training, to attend staff meetings and to assist with setting functions where required.
  • Ensure that anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practices are maintained throughout Great Minds Together.
  • Create positive relationships with children and young people and interact in a way that promotes self-esteem and confidence.
  • To contribute to a positive child friendly atmosphere.
  • To be alert and observant with regards to the well-being of the young person.
  • To support the Clinical Director with the ongoing development, review and oversight of the clinical processes across all departments in the organisation.
  • To ensure that all daily recordings of the young person’s day are kept to a high standard and provide guidance and support to the team to ensure they are in line with the evidence required to ensure the correct level of support is in place.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in a relevant field of Psychology, as accredited by the BPS (or equivalent awarding body).
  • Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration (registration number must be provided in the application form).
  • Up to date enhanced DBS.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a Forensic Psychologist
  • Demonstrable experience of having worked as a Forensic Psychologist under the supervision of a more senior member of the profession for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Demonstrable experience of working children, young people, and their families.
  • Demonstratable experience in conducting a variety of assessments with broad knowledge of varying assessment tools and their benefits for young people with complex needs.
  • Ability and willingness to show flexibility, responding to the needs of the young people and their families.
  • Knowledge of current legislation including mental health issues, child and adult safeguarding, and equality.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with people affected by developmental trauma.

Desirable:

  • PMVA trained. Training will be provided; you must have a willingness to undertake any courses relevant to the role
  • Supervision training (BPS accredited)
  • Training in developmental trauma and relational-based approaches
  • Demonstrable experience of providing psychological treatment for trauma e.g. EMDR, trauma focussed CBT.
  • Experience of supervising the practice of psychology staff e.g. assistant psychologists.

Skills for the Role

  • Ability to understand children and young people that may present with distressed behaviour as a result of past experiences and have experience and patience to help and support staff working with them to work through those behaviours and not take their behaviour personally.
  • A comprehensive understanding of developmental trauma and how this may or may not present in the context of neurodiversity.
  • Experience of effective teamwork, with the ability to use initiative and advise team members.
  • Ability to understand and apply safeguarding protocols as they arise.
  • Ability to engage in self-reflective practice and support others to do so through supervision.
  • Excellent listening and counselling skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.

Additional Duties

Due to the nature of the work of Great Minds Together, tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied and may include weekend and evening working. All staff are, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises, when tasks not specifically covered in their job description must be undertaken. These additional duties will normally be to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes in work, and they will normally be compatible with the regular type of work. If the additional responsibility or task becomes a regular or frequent part of the member of staff’s job, it will be included in the job description in consultation with the member of staff.
